1 pm: Beast From Haunted Cave (1959)
A giant spider stalks a band of thieves in this schlocky thriller from Gene Corman Productions. The story follows gangster Alexander Ward and his crew as they enlist the help of a local ski-instructor in the heist of several gold bars. But when they use explosives to create a distraction, they disturb the lair of a massive spider. Monte Hellman, the man behind such cult favorites as Two-Lane Blacktop, made his directorial debut with Beast From Haunted Cave.
2:30 pm: The Wasp Woman (1959)
In this 1959 sci-fi horror cult classic from Roger Corman (The Little Shop of Horrors), cosmetics tycoon Janice Starlin (Susan Cabot), desperate to preserve her youthful image and business empire, turns to an experimental enzyme extracted from wasps to reverse aging. The treatment delivers astonishing results—until it transforms her into something unrecognizable and lethal.

Nora Navra Library
Nora Navra Library, originally called Branch Nine, opened in two temporary locations during 1946. The original permanent 2,500-square-foot building, located at 1902 St. Bernard Avenue, was dedicated as the Nora Navra Library on May 2, 1954. Branch Nine and Nora Navra Library served the people of the Seventh Ward continuously for 69 years until it was destroyed by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The destroyed building was demolished in 2017, and construction began on a new one. The celebration of the new 7,800 square foot building, held on Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25, 2018, marked the official reopening of all six of the Libraries that were damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Katrina.
