Pickpocket Flash
Write 2-Sentence Stories
Saturday, March 29
2:00pm - 3:30pm
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library
Programming SpaceRead, write, and share intriguing flash fiction stories in just two sentences while exploring various genres including mystery, crime, horror, sci-fi, speculative, dystopian, fantasy, and humor.
Bring your own 2-sentence stories to share, and write your own in the workshop. The Library will provide writing prompts. You can read your stories out loud, or the program leader will read them out loud for you, if you prefer.
You may choose any genre, including the following:
- Horror/Spooky/Scary
- Mystery/Thriller/Suspense/Crime/Spy
- Humor/Satire
- Science Fiction
- Fantasy
- Speculative/Dystopian
- Historical
- Romance
- Western
- Dialogue-Only
- Nonfiction/Memoir
- YA (Young Adult/Teen)
- Juvenile/Children’s Fiction
Rules? Not many! Your story has to be 2-sentences long, and you can use whatever punctuation you would like.
Maybe one of these mini flash fictions will be the creative spark for a longer story. It’s a fun writing exercise to get those ideas flowing and those fingers moving.
Other Ideas:
- Would you like to write one in another language? Go ahead! Write it in another language and translate it into English. Read both versions.
- Write one in the form of an email or a text message
- Write one in the form of a list or a recipe
- Write one in the form of packing for a trip
- Write one in the form of giving someone directions
- Write one in the form of a restaurant review (or book/movie/play/concert review)
- Try other lengths, but still keep it short: 1-sentence, 3-sentences, 4-sentences, 5-sentences
