Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy at Main Library with lecturer, publisher, and author Janis Kearney.
The African American Resource Collection presents the 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. This year's event features keynote speaker Janis Kearney, author of Only on Sunday: Mahalia Jackson's Long Journey. She will share Mahalia Jackson's story as a New Orleans native and her influence on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. Local artists will perform some of Mahalia Jackson's songs, as well as other entertainment related to Dr. King's legacy.

The Main Library, located in the Central Business District, opened in December 1958. The building, encompassing three main floors and two sub-basements, is the Library's flagship location, providing the system's largest collection of popular and research sources.
The Main Library offers a wide collection of books, music, and movies, and hosts many programs for children, teens, and adults.
