Learn to sew a simple, zero-waste jacket based on an ancient design. Skills include using your own measurements to construct a well-fitting garment. Beginners welcome. Registration required.
This program will take place upstairs in Meeting Room 3/4
An instructor from ricRACK, a local upcycling and fabric sustainability nonprofit, leads a single-session sewing class perfect for adventurous beginners or those who want to brush up on their sewing skills. The class will cover the basics of machine sewing while guiding you through the process of sewing a bog jacket.
The bog jacket is one of the original zero-waste garments. The design is based off a garment discovered in a Danish bog and estimated to be 3,000 years old. Constructed from a rectangle, there are very few seams. In this class, you'll learn key measurements and cutting techniques as well as how to hem and finish seams, and you'll walk away with a finished, customized garment.
Sewing machines will be available for your use. Fabric and supplies will be provided by ricRACK, but if you have something you'd like to turn into a coat, you're encouraged to bring it along.
Registration is required as sewing machines are limited.
