"Three Hundred Years of Decadence" explores decadence as an avenue into the long and shifting story of New Orleans as a contact zone for peoples and cultures from Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
The book ranges across different historical periods from the late seventeenth century to contemporary speculations about the city’s future, various literary genres (travel writing, poetry, fiction, lyric, and drama), and disparate languages (French, English, German, and Creole patois).
