Want to design and publish your own book? This workshop covers the steps to self-publish your project, including text and image sequence, book layout, and cover design.

Workshop topics include:  

• Introduction to self-publishing
• What you need to self-publish your book
• Text and image sequencing and preparation for book layout
• Page design, including margin size, paragraph shape, typography, and fonts
• Cover design
• Online programs that can be used to make a book layout

The staff from Paper Machine will conduct this free workshop. Located in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward, Paper Machine is Antenna's digital bookbindery and print shop. Antenna is a 501(c)(3) non-profit multidisciplinary cultural institution supporting artists and writers to contextualize contemporary life, and create cultural capital and societal change through their work. 

Paper Machine's print facility uses modern, traditional, and specialty processes to support the vibrant, creative community that upholds the cultural essence of the city, making publications that represent diverse ideas and sensibilities, transforming them into printed products to be shared at a grassroots level. Paper Machine's devotion to local publishers is articulated through technical support from start to finish including education, consultation, and sharing applicable resources. As part of the cultural landscape of the Gulf South, Paper Machine works with mission-aligned individuals and organizations who receive discounted printing services as part of our Community Partners' Program. Paper Machine also offers pro-bono printing services for funeral programs and other printed materials on a case-by-case basis.
