Spend a Mid-Autumn afternoon with Chef Bích Trâm Tường to learn how to make mooncakes. Families in attendance will learn more about Tết Trung Thu traditions and even decorate a Tết lantern to keep.
Tết Trung Thu is a Vietnamese holiday celebrated on the first full moon of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. It is known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Moon Festival, the Harvest Festival, the Lantern Festival, and sometimes even the Mooncake Festival. Traditionally, Tết Trung Thu marks the end of the harvest season and celebrates abundance, prosperity, and future fulfillments. This holiday is centered on family, especially children. Young ones are gifted with mooncakes, lanterns, toys, and foods. The jubilance and familial bonding of Tết Trung Thu can be equated to American Thanksgiving.
Open to children ages 6 - 12 and their families. Registration is required.
In collaboration with VIET. Sponsored by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.
