"New Orleans Chronicles" Book Launch
Authored by New Orleans Adult Education Students
Saturday, December 14
2:00pm - 4:00pm
Main Library
1st Floor Stage and Performance SpaceCelebrate the launch of "New Orleans Chronicles," a collection written by local adult learners and published by Library partner, One Book One New Orleans.
Each year, One Book One New Orleans provides copies of their selected book, along with a curriculum, to adult education programs throughout the city. The instructors in those programs then use these tools to help further their students' literacy skills.
This year, students from YMCA Educational Services (YES), St. Vincent de Paul Adult Learning Center, and Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) have contributed pieces inspired by One Book One New Orleans' 2024 selection, Black Creole Chronicles by Mona Lisa Saloy. These contributions were compiled into a collection titled New Orleans Chronicles. New Orleans Chronicles are the students' stories, told in their words, about their lives, their neighborhoods, and their city.
Contributors will read their pieces, followed by a book signing. All in attendance will receive a free copy of the book. Refreshments will be provided. This event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public.
