Listen to a live opera performance by Opera Creole. As a part of the performance, learn about the history of African American people in opera and the Creole culture of New Orleans.
Harmony has a definition in music; but, more importantly, in relationship-building and conflict resolution. This program shares, through musical experiences, what it means to be "in harmony" with each other, how people have used music over the centuries to communicate internally and with each other, and what those songs can mean to us in post-Katrina Louisiana.
Founded in 2011, Opera Creole is dedicated to researching or performing lost or rarely-performed works of African American composers and sharing the contributions of the African American people to this musical art form in New Orleans and around the world.
Sponsored by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.
