Led by Deneka Vallius of Tulane Canal Neighborhood Development Corporation and Capital One, this series will teach the importance of saving, budgeting, investing, and credit & financial independence.
Tulane Canal Neighborhood Development Corporation's 12-week workshops will provide you with the tools necessary to manage your finances by teaching the importance of paying yourself first, building a strong financial foundation, and becoming financially free and independent.
Course topics include the following:
Each participant is required to have a one-on-one session with Vallius prior to attending the first workshop to create a personalized spending plan to track their savings progress over the 12 weeks. Participants will be given Intuit’s Mint interactive in-class and homework assignments to test their knowledge. All assigned homework must be turned in at the beginning of class. Participants are only allowed to miss 2 classes to receive credit for the program.
These financial fitness workshops are led by instructors from TCNDC, Capital One, and approved vendors who are certified by the National Financial Education Council. TCDNC will utilize the Financial Fitness for Life curriculum designed by the Council for Economic Education.

Nora Navra Library, originally called Branch Nine, opened in two temporary locations during 1946. The original permanent 2,500-square-foot building, located at 1902 St. Bernard Avenue, was dedicated as the Nora Navra Library on May 2, 1954. Branch Nine and Nora Navra Library served the people of the Seventh Ward continuously for 69 years until it was destroyed by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The destroyed building was demolished in 2017, and construction began on a new one. The celebration of the new 7,800 square foot building, held on Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25, 2018, marked the official reopening of all six of the Libraries that were damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Katrina.
